Fresh off the machine!
I made the first one for a friend who needed something that would strap onto
the back of his motorcycle nicely. Size: 20 inches long x 11 inches diameter
Handmade Olive Green Waxed Cotton Duck Duffel Bag with a cotton strap. The
strap is a cotton tan color which contrasts with the green canvas duck cloth.
The bag although new is intended to have a vintage look and feel to it.
This material is 18 oz per yard numbered duck with a waxed finish. The term
"duck" comes from the Dutch word "doek", which refers to a linen canvas once
used for sailors' white trousers and outerwear. Not waterproof but water
resistant. It is the weave pattern of the material that gives it the #
designation. With the wax finish the material weighs about 21 oz per yard.
Heavy when compared to your T Shirt which might be 7-8 oz per yard or a pair of
jeans at 10-12 oz per yard. The waxed material has more body to it than regular
cotton as well as other properties (see below). Great for an overnight or
everyday around town.
Waxed canvas has special wear qualities to it. This manner of waterproofing
has been around since the beginning of time. Once you have something in waxed
canvas you will be hooked on it. Although the exact formulas for each mill is
different they are all based on bees wax, paraffin wax and an exclusive blend
of oils. It makes the fabric waterproof, stain resistant and offers more body.
Custom embroidery available at an additional cost (Example photo included).
