Unique vintage box purse with brass city accent. These were called
"destination bags" and it was most likely made in the 1940s. Made of dark
cherry red vinyl with black lining and brass accents. It has a label inside
that begins with an M, but it is so worn it is unreadable.
Outside measurements are 11.25 inches wide, 7.25 inches high, and 3.5 inches
deep. Handle adds 4.25 inches to height when extended.
Condition: this purse is in fair vintage condition with many issues:
-Scratches to the vinyl, including a very noticeable one next to the brass
accent
-Discoloration of brass accents and hardware
-Latch at top is loose; it holds the purse closed when shaken, but may need
work if purse is used
-Threads on handle are loose and missing; vinyl is separated
-Exterior vinyl is pulling away at edges
-A split in the vinyl at the back on one edge
-Bottom has wear, including some cracks in vinyl, especially around one brass
"foot"
-Lining has loose threads and fraying
-Lining has pulled away from edges and needs to be re-glued; inside of latch
is now visible
-Vinyl has split on inside hinge area
Given these issues, I think this bag is best used as a photo shoot prop or as
decoration. It is a unique piece and would be lovely in photographs or in your
vintage home or studio.
